ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the McLean Institute was field yesterday, the Mayor (Mr H. Holland) presioiug. The annual balance-sneet snowed a I debit balance of £6744 12s 3d, as against £5353 lis 4d the previous year. Jjiaapprcval was expressed by the auditors that expenditure on income account had again exceeded the income available, tnus depleting fhe capital , funds. . I In speaking to the motion to adopt the balanee-sueet, Mr F. Horrell made various suggestions. for cutting down expenditure. Amongst other things he suggested that one of the institutions, or part of it, should bo turned into an infirmary, and he also thought that there could bo much cutting down of the expenditure on gardening at tho institutions, ' which amounted to £991 - 9s 9d.. It- might, lie thought, be con-, siderably cheaper if all the vegetables were bought, instead of incurring such expenditure in their growing. It was high time the Board "set its house m order." The balance-sheeSt was adopted.
The solection of a committee to revise the expenditure was discussed, the matter being eventually deferred till v next meeting, in view of the fact that changes were impending in the personnel of tho Board. '•'The Press" was decided upon as the official organ of the Board for the ensuing year. The resignation of the Rev. A. • T. Thompson as a member of the Board, owing to his approaching departure from Christehurch, was received with regret, and it was decided to place on record the Board's appreciation of his services.
