On Friday afternoon the upper standards of the Bromley school paid a visit to the Woolst.on Tanneries, where they were shown over the works by. the manager, Mr Garston, who explained in plain language the different operations, and the children were thoroughly interested in all they saw. At the eonelusion, the headmaster thanked Mr Garston for his courtesy, and the youngsters gave three rousing cheers for his explanations of leather-makinc. On Saturday evening the monthly meeting of the School Committee was held, there being present Messrs Lilly Mooro, Briggs, and Carr. Great satisfaction was expressed at the result of the fiTst entertainment in aid of the school funds. and it was decided to make -mother effort towards the end of this month. On Friday evening the monthly meeting of the Band of Flone was held in the Druids' Hall, Mr Withell presiding. The following contributed items: Pianoforte solos, Misses Mcintosh and Heath; songs, Misses Witliell,' Greaves, Goodman, and Veitch, Mrs Clark, and Miss Smart; recitations, Messrs Lapsley, Bush, Lancaster, and Miss I. Cox. An address was given by the Rev. Fatterson. Electric light is now installed m tho Masonic Hall and Coronation Library, and an electric pump at the school. The light at tho bridge has been reinstated, and is a great benefit to the public. DABFIELD. Mr Bracey Wilson's Auto Pierrot Troupe gave a very successful concert in tne Memorial Hall on Thursday evening to a well-filled houso. Prior to the commencement of tho concert, a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Private T. Clinton was passed. During an interval Mr R. Reid, on behalf of tho district, welcomed home Private Hawke, who recently returned from tho front. Afterwards Private Slattery was farewellcd and presented with a safety razor. He has only been a short while in CI camp, but has been posted to the reinforcements. At the conclusion of the concert dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mrs Christophereon, extras being played by Miss Christopherson, Mrs Knight, and Miss A. Shipley. Mr Worthington acted as M.C. The proceeds—about £50—are being divided between the Sailors' Day and Prisoners of War Funds. During the evening Messrs Wilson and R Re ; d made an appeal, which realised £32 13s 6d. AKAROA. The annual meeting of the various branches of the Presbyterian Church i on the Peninsula was held at Duvauchelle, on Thursday afternoon. The. Rev. J. vv. Hayward, Moderator, presided. The annual report, as presented bv the hon. treasurer (Mr J. S. Dodds),' showed a total income, including £20 credit balance of £720. It was docided to circularise the Timaru and Oaniaru Societies on the question of a" conference of the three societies to talk over matters, of mutual interest, with special reference to the idea of instituting an annual conference o? the societies of the South Island.
