Miss MacGregor and Miss M. MacGregor (Wellington) are staying at the Clarendon. Mr and Mrs C. C. Roberts (Ashburton) are in town. Miss Bcbson (Craighead School, Timaru) is visiting Christchurch. Mrs Arthur Fear (Rangiora) has soturned from a visit to Timaru. Mrs Reeve (Wanganui) is staying with Mrs George Merton (Park terrace). Miss E. Cutten is -visiting Christchurch for some weeks. She is staying at Warwick House. Mr and Mrs O. J. Miller, of this city, are visiting Timaru. Mr and Mrs D. L. Rutherford returned to Leslie Hills yesterday after a few days in town.

Mr C. T. Ascliman having reported to the Canterbury Education H-oard that a large number of women students at the Training College wished to take up hockey and engage in the competitions, the Board at its meeting yesterday agreed to make a grant not to exceed £5 to cover cost of renting ground in Hagley Park and fees.

At the Young Women's Christian Association, Latimer square, on Thursday evening, the Rev. G. E. Moore, 31.A., gave the first of three addresses on St. Paul's Epistle to the "Galatians." Mrs A. Kayc, president, was in the chair, and warmly thanked Mr Moore for his address, which was much appreciated by thoso present. FALLING HAIE. A MORNING TEA. Yesterday morning the members of i the Christchurch Cfecho and kindergarten Association entertained Mrs J--I{. Evans, who is relinquishing tho honorary secretaryship of the Association after having held the post for seven years. The affair took place at the Henrietta Tea Rooms, and some of thoso present were:—Mrs T. E. Taylor, Mrs Peppier, Mrs Miller, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Peverill, Miss L. Tabart, Miss Cocks, Mrs Clifton Bingham, Mrs W. Morton, Mrs Wilson, Miss Paterson, Mrs Glen, Mrs Ensom, Mrs Griffiths, Mrs Perry, and Miss Reeves. . Tho tea tables were decorated with richly-tin ted chrysanthemums and bright autumn leaves. Mrs T. E. Taylor, president of tho Association, in eulogising Mrs Evans's services, said that Mrs Evans had been secretary to the Association ever since its inception. The work entailed in launching a new enterprise was always the hardest, and Mrs Evans had shown the greatest tact and kindness not only to members of the committeo but to everyone with whom her work for the Association had brought her in contact. On behalf of the members she sincerely thanked Mrs Evans for her arduous work for the Association. The treasurer. Miss Cocke, and Mrs Peppier also referred to Mrs Evans s invaluable work. In reply Evans said that she was deeply sorry to resign, but her other duties encroached so much upon her time that she felt she was unable to do the position justice. looked back with pleasure to the past seven years' and felt glad to recall the harmonious relations that had prevailed amongst the committee.

A highly successful "hard-up masked dance was- held last evening in ttiie* Jlidsely Mall in aid of tn e Latimer lied Cross funds, when a- nunibpr of masked dancers eejoyed °the glorious uncertainty of one another's identity, which greatly added to the merriment. gramme dance followed. The supper was not at all frugal, it being specially delicious, and set on tables artistically decorated with chrysanthemums and autumn leaves.
