But one of the important aspects is proper road construction. Even with shingle intelligently used an excellent* road, can be maintained small cost. The gross ignorance and incapacity of many of the County officers is largely responsible for the present state of affairs. No road could ever be decently made *»v: t.h • the boulders that are often used; mending consists too often in telling a■. diayman to fill up holes—and fce takes whatever comes first in the pit or river-bed, with fearful results. From the ;ity to past "West Melton a "road" that is a disgrace to the local bodies responsible, from there on to Hororata ap excellent road; and taking into account the difference in width of tho - two portions, the latter surface probably carries verv nearly the same motor traffic as the former.
