SPIES IN ITALY. . GREEK CONSUL APrREHENDED. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and Cftblo Association.) • LONDON, March 14. The Milan correspondent of Ihc "Dailv Chronicle" states thaj> Giorgio a well-known and suc- ' t-cssful grain exporter, who was the ' Greek Consul at Leghorn, has been arrested on a charge of espionage. The authorities noticed for some tirao that spies were lighting a scries •of flares along the Tuscan coast, in order to guide the Austro-German submarines, and; suspected Maurogornato - of aiding the enemy by meeting I he. .crews at the seashore at night and giving them informati6n regarding the bailing of ships and giving them sup- : plies. The authorities laid a trap ana caught Maurogornato and his accomplices rcd-lianded at a lonely seasido ; villa occupied by Maurogoruato's German mistress, who was also arrested. Maurogornato was recently in fossession of large sums of money.
PROPAGANDA FROM THE AIR. ROME. March 14. A sqnadron of enemy aeroplanes, fl>iiio- over the Italian positions, . dropped manifestoes and illustrated journals, urging the futility of further Italian resistance. Italian and British aeroplanes immediately attacked the enemy <: nchines. of which four were destroyed. BAIT TO TEMPT FRANCE. LONDON, March 14. The "British "Weekly" reports that Germany contemplates tempting France by otiering to guarantee ciie largo French loans to Russia, and to appeal tlius to the so-called avarice of tlie French peasants. The "British Weekly' adds: — "France will repudiate the offer with scorn.'' SERBIA'S LOVALTY AFFIRMED. (Australian and X.Z. Ca.ble Association.) (lieutor's Telegrams.) LONDON. March 14. The Press Bureau reports that the Serbian Legation emphatically denies the rumour circulated by Germany of peace pourparlers between Serbia and her enemies. PASITCH CABINET RESIGNS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, March 14. A Corfu correspondent reports that tlx- Crown Prince lias accepted the resignation of the Pasitch Cabinet, and has conferred with tho party leaders with a view to the formation of a coalition Government.
