CHEVIOT. Tho Cheviot County Council met on Saturday. Present—Councillors T. O. Geo (.cliturnxan), C. Barnes, J. T. Jackson, J. H- ij. Hiatt, K. L. Jameson, T. btcvenaon, and O. L. Rutherford. . , It waa decided that tenders be culled tor the eupply of 15 tons of chaff. . Mr T. Lewis drew attention to the dangerous condition of the footbridge near his-sec-tion, and asked that it be repaired. Agreed Mr T. C. Robinson wrote complaining of the state of a deep open ford on the West Wuiau road. Tho secretary of the Parnassus School Uommittec complained of the raiu-wator draining on to the school ground. A complaint was received from Air J. intzpatrick a-s to tho etate of tii© road near liis section. . . The Clerk was instructed to iniorm the writers that tho places would be inspected by tlie Council on the 25th. inst. Tho Canterbury Automobile Association wrote asking the Council to support a resolution that a letter bo sent to tfca ilinister of Railways urging the ncceeeity of having tho Styx railway crossing made safe.—Agreed to. The Mayor of Christchurch wrote regarding a League for the Advancement of Canterbury. Several members of the Council undertook to attend the meeting. The Manawatu Couuty Council wrote aakiag for the Council's support of a resolution urging the resumption of race special trains. —Agreed to. The Canterbury Patriotic Committee wrote asking that the Council remit the balance of its donation of i'l'GCO in the near future.—lt was resolved to abide by the original agreement. The Town Clerk, Auckland, wrote requesting the Council to support a resolution for the retention of Samoa by the British after the war.—Agreed to. It waa resolved to put teams on the road for eliingling and patching, and iiwpeaso the pay of teamsters to £1 2s tkl per day, and to engage a man to drive a team permanently.-
