HOSPITAL BOARD.

—-— j YESTERDAY'S MEETING. j The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs F. Horrell (chairman), H. B. Soreusen, TV. McMillau, W. Nicholls, W. J. "Walter, E. Evans, 0. Bradley, D. McMillan, W. P. Spencer, W. H. Cooper, F. G. Norton 1. Andrew, H. J. Otley, and J. Paterson, the Hon. It. Moore, and Mesdames "Wilson, Christie, and Green. The Finance Committee reported that the question of fire prevention had beea under its consideration for a considerable time, and twenty-six fire extinguishers had been purchased and distributed where required at the various institutions. Besides these a chemical engine had been purchased from the Fire Board, to be stationed at the Infectious Diseases Hospital. In the event of fire occurring at tlias institution the Fire Board would undertake to send men down there to render assistance. The application of the Amuri County Council for a subsidy of £200 towards the district medical fund had been considered, and a sub-committee had been set up to confer with representatives of the Amuri, Cheriot, and.Wajpara counties on tne question of medical subsidies and the establishment of a local hospital and maternity home. The Oxford County Council had written stating that tho Oxford district was willing tc contributo the £1000 necessary towards the establishment of a local hospital and maternity home. The matter was under consideration by the Minister, and it might be possible to state his decision by the date of the Board meeting. On the recommendation of the Public Health Committee'it had been agreed, subject to the Board's approval, that Sister ireLean be appointed temporary matron at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, and Nurse Manson appointed temporary sister. Tho report was adopted.
