♦ The Council of the Royal Colonial Institute have decided to leave in abeyance for ihe present the eloclionof a suetssor to the late Earl Grey. It will be necessary, however, to appoint a president before very long, in view of the fact that the Institute will, subject to the conditions then existing, celebrate its jubileo next year. During the last year, up to November 14th, 1023 new members of tho Institute had elected. and a considerub.e addition to the numbers was expected from Manches er, Birmingham, and Bournemouth, whero Lrancl-.es of the Institute have been opened. Lord Sydenham has succeeded Karl Grr-y as chairman of the Empire Land Sei.t!eniDnt Caiv.mittee, and its work is being vigoious'y prosecuted, a register being kept of all ex-service applicants for settlement on the and after the war, and relations are b'<ing maintained on the subject with Iho Colonial Office, tho Hoard of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Pensions. The Imperial Studios Committee, which carried out a successful programme of lectures in the large university centres of the United Kingdom during the last winter and spring, has arranged a simi'ar campaign for 1917-18. and has appronchtvj the university authorities in tho Dominions with a view t-o carrying on tho same work oversea.
