NURSERYMEN AND THE WAR.
INTERESTING FIGURES. At the Nurserymen's Conference yesterday the president (Mr T. "Waugh) gave some interesting figures relating to the number of men employed in the Dominion in the industry. The figures were prepared for the National Efficiency Board. In 1914 the approximate number employed in the nurseries of the Dominion was: First Division 309, Second Division 477, others (over and under military age) 258; total, 1044. In 1915: First Division 232, Second Division 553. others 279; total, 1064. In 1916: First Division 149, Second Division 534, others 291; total, 974. The total number of fruit trees 6old in 1914 was 907,830; in 1915, 1,170,355; in 1916, 986.2S4. The president anticipated that the sales for 1917 would show a farther drop.
