PERSONAL NOTES,

There was a large gafchoring at the Wharenui school on Saturday afternoon when the handsome Roll of Honour Board was unveiled by Mr G, Witty, M.P. The money for the purchase of the Board was raised by the Roys' Hockey Club. Among those who were present at the ceremony were Messrs G. Witty, M.P., I{. Fletcher, M.P., C. H. Opie, chairman of tre Canterbury Education Board, J. Jamieson, E. H. Andrews, and A. Peverill, members of the Board. Mr c?. A. Staples, chairman of the Wainiairi County Council, was present, also several members and ex-members of tho Riccarton Borough Council. A guard of honour was formed for the visitors by members of the School Cadet Corps, and tho Riccarton Boys' Scout troop. Mr T. Haberfield, chairman of the school committee, presided. After the unveiling ceremony had been performed speeches were made by Messrs Witty, Stokes, Opie, Staples, Fletcher, and Jamieson, and songs were sung by Misses G. Cross, Edgington, and 1/. Hannan, and by Mr Mounsey's choir. The Roll of Honour contains the following names: —R. Harris, V. Tregonning (returned), L. Richardson, G. Stokes (returned), C. Palmer, R. Richardson, It. Calvert, H. Palmer. P. I/uinmis, R. Coates (returned), N. Fraser, A. Henery (lulled in action), R. Hodder, P. Lowe, A. Blackburn, H. Manson, H. Lane, L. Harris, L. Tregonning, R. Alley, E. Fine, 0. Colling, H. Eaton,, and HaiTy Palmer. Further names arc to be inscribed, and three of the school staff, Messrs Hutton, Williams, and Maxwell, are also with tho New Zealand forces.

Bombardier C. F. Bremner (wounded and gassed) went out with the Main Body, was in Egypt, Gallipoli, and France, and this is the first timo he has been wounded. Ho is about 23 years of age, and is a grandson of tho late Dr. Featherston, one of the celebrated "three F's" of New Zealand politics and a prominent statesman, and at one time Agent-General for New Zealand.

Driver Cecil Hunter (killed), belonged to Dunedin. He left New Zealand with 1 tho 15th Artillery Reinforcements, and on reaching England, being keen to get to the front, he received an appointment to a howitzer battery, which was proceeding to the front immediately. After six months of strenuous work there he was granted holiday leave to London, and had just, returned to France again when ho met his death. Driver Hunter was employed for many years in tho grain department of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., and prior to enlisting was acting as town traveller for Messrs F. Meenan and Co., Dunedin. He was an ex-execntive member of the Dun e din Club.

Private Jame6 Joseph Hickey (killed) was the youngest 6on of Mr and Mts Henry Hickey, South Dunedin. He left with the Fourth Reinforcements, served in Gallipoli, and had been through all the fighting in which the New Zealanders were engaged up to the time of his death.

Mr F. H. Davie, of Rotoiti, Scargill, hnt received a cablegram from his som, 2nd Lieut. F. L. Davie, saying ho has had his leg amputated below the knee, and is now doing splendidly. The cablegram does not state which leg. Lieut. Davie was a surveyor in Christchurch before he left with the 7th Reinforcements. A brother, R. E. Davie,

who left with the Main Body, was wounded and taken prisoner on Gallipoli, and is etill a, prisoner of war in Turkey.

Private Fredk. L. Evans (killed) was the fifth son of Mr Jolrn Evans, Antigua street. Christchurch. Ho was born in Christchurch and educated at the St. Albans school. He enlisted for tho Main Body, but was rejectea, being ultiraatelv accepted for the 19th Reinforcements. He was married befpre leaving New Zealand, but his wifo died suddenly six months ago. He was employed by the Tai Tapu Dairy Company. His voungest brother. Reg., went atvay with" the 28th Reinforcements.

A cable has been received from Lieut. E F H. Knowles, of tho 12th Howitzer Battery. N.Z.F.A., who was wounded last month, intimatin- h° Hospital, Brockcnhurst, on October 25 th. , , Gunner W. Dobson (reported wounded and admitted to hospital in. Franc® •n 30th October, suffering from a gunshot wound m the tlie oldest surviving son of Sirs Dobson, .o Daniel street, andlate Mr William Dobson. Has father lett vrith the Main Body, and was hiUed in action at GalUpoli. Prior to enlisting. Gunner Dobson served for nine vearb with Messrs Briscoe Mid Company, Wellington. He left with the 21st Arui lery Reinforcements.
