ANTI-SHOUTING CHARGES AT TIMARU.
« ... ■ (press association TEL£GEAM.) TIMARTJ, November 8. The Stipendiary Magistrate was occti- ■ pied most of. the day in hearing charges respecting four town hotels, tinder th<? anti-shouting law. Three of tho eases were dismissed on the ground that th® evidence of two special constables was „ confused and unsatisfactory. In the fourth case a barmaid admitted serving a "shout," and two customers admitted the purchase. The buyer said h» had a soft drink himself, Mid if his friend had had this, an-d he himself tafl "hard'' one, there would have been no offence. The Magistrate said that was so. Defendant said he thought it would be no breach of the law thejjther" wayThe customers wore fined £5 each, and in the case of the barmaid a fine of *1 was inflicted, with the loss of her license for six months.
