MENACE
ADMIRALTY'S "WEEKLY RETURN.

A British Admiralty report on the submarine campaign during tho week ended November 4th gives the following figures, those in last week's report being given in parentheses:— Arrivals ... ... (2235) Sailings ... ... 2379 (2321) Sinkings— Over 1600 tons ... 8 (14) Under IGOO tons ... 4 (4) Unsuccessfully attacked <J (1) An Italian official report states that the arrivals during the past week were 3-52 and the departures 312. Two steoniers under 1500 tons and three sailers under 100 tons, were sunk. NEW BRITISH CRUISERS. (Australian and N.Z. Coble Association.) PARIS, November 7. ''Le Temps" describes the mysterious new British cruisers as of great length, "with long decks fore and aft, and lying verv low in tho water. Each is fitted with tripod, masts, ■which are armoured,
and three turrets with two guns of larse calibre in the centre.
Hie vessels are far more speedv than pre-war cruisers. Thc-v have already been a year in service" All the guns arc under the control of ono man.
AN AMERICAN LOSS
W ASLTINGTON, November 7. It is officially announced that the armed yacht Alcedo was torpedoed and sun k in the war zone on November oth. An officer and 20 men are missing, and it is feared that thev have been drowned.
NORWEGIAN STEAMERS SUNK
November 7. -Norwegian steamers Gimlo and rn?* m 0 bec-n sunk bv a submarine. Ilie crews were rescued. Owing: to lack of petrol, all fishing in northern Norway lias stopped, resulting in enormous loss, and possiblv famine.
SHIPS FOR ITALY
NEW YORK, November 7. iwo moro merchantmen have been turned over to Italy, whoso shipping needs take precedence of those of x' ranee.
