Brown, Burnside, Mayticld, on Novembor 3rd. e His health had been failing for some time past, but cren up to the last liis g mind retained much of its freshness and energj-. About 1890 lie left the station and took ' up a farm in Springburn, where ho lived ,j for five or six years. i'rom there he retired to Ashburton to enjoy a weil--11 earned rest. Here ho spent seventeen 11 years of his life. On April lSt'a, 101-1, his wifo died at the age of 79 years, and his home being broken up, he went to live with his sons and daughters, j His life of shepherding unci as station j. manager prevented his taking any very 0 active part in public affairs, but whilo ho was at Spriiigburn ho was actively connected with the opening of tho ' Mount Somors iSchool. He was a man r of very active temparament, possessing i- a good constitution, and haying scarcely r any sickness in the whole of his long y life. Though somewhat reserved in his d disposition, there lay behind that ren servo a nature gentle and kind. He 0 was much esteemed by all who knew * him. His word was his bond, and he e always steerod a- straight course in all 1 hi 6 dealings. He was faithful and D trustworthy as a servant, and as a ;• master he was kind and considerate. ~ He was married to Elizabeth Stevenson on May 11th, 59 years ago, and he leaves a family of two sons and four a daughters. There arc now twentyj eight grandchildren and fifteen greatgrandchildren. His eldest son, Mr 4 William Lambie, is manager of the j Mount Possession run, and it is worthy j. of notice that directly and indirectly the Lambie family has been connectod t with that station ever since 1861. fc Tho death occurred on Tuesday of a 1 Wellington pioneer in tho person of Mr John Haggerty. The late Mr Hag- " gorty, who was about 80 years of age, r took up land in Oliariu Valley somo 44 1 vears ago, but retired, and was living in Wellington. The late gentleman was I n fine type of settler, and was a popular ' figure wherovcr he went. He is sur- .. vived by two sons and two daughters. Mr Jack Haggerty is chairman of the - Makara County Council, and Mr "Donald 5 Haggerty resides at the Hutt. The ; daughters are Mrs A. M. Brooks and Mrs A. Wliittaker, both of Wellington. Another well-known Wellington iden--1 tity, Mr Thomas Orr, is dead. Born ' in County Armagh, Ireland, in 1835, tho late Mr Orr served his time with Har- * land and Wolff, of shipbuilding fame, 1 and came to tho Dominion in 1864. He, t landed at Lyttelton, hut two or three v years later removed to Wellington, ' where he followed the occupation of f building contractor until about twenty . years ago. when he retired. Mr and Mrs Orr, tho latter cf. whom survives r her husband, were tlie first couplo to be married in St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral. . This was in 1860. The. late Mr Orr, l who resided at 18 Featherston terrace, - is survived by four daughters—Mrs A. ; Osborne and Mrs Arthur Greening, of t Wellington, Mrs S. Clendon, Lower ; Hntt, and Mrs C. E. Archibald, Dunel din—and two eons —Mr Thomas Orr, of 1 Jnhann<vsbure. and Mr John Orr, late | of Macky. Locan and Co., Ancbland, [ who is now serving in France as a signaller. | Tho death is announced at Feathers- , ton of Mr A. M. Wilkinson, an old set- . tier of tho district. The deceased, who was 81 years of ago, at one time owned and conducted the Taukerenikau Hotel, and later took up farming.
