NAVY LEAGUE.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The General Committee of the Canterbury branoh of the Nary League met last night, Mr''J. J. Dougall presiding. The hon. treasurer, Mr H. S., Batchelor, reported that the total received to date for tho appeal on "Navy Day" was £743 4s 9d. A motion of thanks to all who assisted on "Navy Day" was agreed to. „ 1 „ The general secretary of the Navy League,. London, wrote that he was glad to hear that the Canterbury branch approved of the way in which the funds sent to England for the benefit of naval men lost during the war are being administered. Continuing, ho wrote: "I can assiire you that the administration of such a large sum of money as this is not at all an easy matter, but you may be quite certain that each application for relief which is sent in receives every attention, -and as the committee is largely composed of the wives of Admirals and others who are well qualified to deal with this matter, they will flways do their best to see that the monev is administered to the very best possible advantage." The letter was received. _ It was decided to ask Mr C. J. Parr, to give a lecture in Christchurch about the middle of next month, or, towards the end of January, on the work of the Army and Navy in the great war. . The statement of receipts and expenditure showed that the general account was in debit £172 Os lid.
