ship during tho abscnco of General Botha, is descended from a French Huguenot, Jacquos Malan. who landed in South Africa in 1(389. Ho was born on March 12th, IS7I, and on the conclusion of his university course oecame an advocate of tho Supreme Court of Cape Colony. Ho became Minister of Agriculture in 1908, anr? continued in that office till 1910, when ho became Minister of Education for United South Africa.
