"HAVE YOU ENROLLED ? "
« POLICE VIGILANCE. "Have you enrolled?" -was a prevalent question yesterday, when the police commenced their search for those who have failed to fulfil the obligations placed upon 'them by the Military Service Act. The constables visited many popular resorts, chiefly placcs of amusement, and, with the authority conferred upon them by the War Regulations, accosted all and sundry who appeared to be of military age, demanding tho production of their enrolment forms. In tho vast majority of cases these'were forthcoming, and all those who did not) possess forms were able to tender satisfactory explanations. No arrests were made, and so far as is known no untoward incident occurred. However, several who had been so negligent as to leave their forms at home had their memory smartly jogged when accosted, and were only too anxious to establish their bona fides. It is said that one man -who had his name and address recorded appeared later at the Police Station hatlcss, perspiring, and in a greatly perturbed state of mind, exceedingly anxious to stay any possibly proceedings against himself. It may be remarked that yesterday's proceedings are only the commencement of a campaign that will extend ovor an indefinite period. (press association* telegram.) WELLINGTON, July 16. In accordance with notice given, squads of policemen to-day visited a number of hotels and other placcs in the city, tyrtd demanded from men apparently of military ago satisfactory proof of enrolment. It is understood a long list of names and addresses is in the hands of the police.
