MR F. J. BARNETT.

(srsc: .U. To •'TtIK X'RESS.'") ELLINGTON, July 16 ; The death oceurrcd suddenly in "W Ellington, yesterday morning. of Mr Frederick Joshua Barnett-. The Barnett family is exceedingly well known in the city. The deceased gentleman —a son of tho late Mr A. A. Barnett — was his Majesty's Resident Commissioner of the Solomon Island protectorate in the Western Pacific, and an Imperial Government officer. Owing to Tar conditions he was compelled to remain at his post without relief until just recently, "when he was granted four and a-half months' furlough. He Lad spent some time in Sydney., and was visiting his brothers and sister in NewZealand. Mr Barnett had spent thirtyfour years in the Fiji and Solomon Islands, and the sudden illness to which he succumbed may be attributed to his long residence in tropical cl'mes. Of bis three eons, one, Ernest, is a captain in charge of the Fijian Constabulary, another is studying in 5-yluey, and the third, the youngest, has a copra plan.ta- ' tion in the Solomon Islands. Ho had four brothers, namely, Mcssts M. C. E. J., and A. H. Barnett, of "Wellington. Jyieut.-Colonel Louis Barnett, of Dunedin, and one sister, Miss Barnott, of Wellington. The deceased was a native of Geeloag, and 58 years of age.
