A particularly cxciting time was experionced recently by passenger? on board a steamer trading between Vancouver and Sydney (say? the '"'Sydney ' Daily TelegraphOn tho journoy to Australia tho vessel collided with some strange object in the water,, For a tirao considerable? consternation prevailed among the passengers, of whom thero were 200 on board, until it was discovered that the collision had been caused by a hutre whale The force of tho impact was such that the bow of [ tho vessel had penetrated the bodv at j tlio monster to its backbone, and there lit hung impaled. Tho whale was of iho spotted variety: and by reason of its presence tho vessel temporarily lost the use of its rudder, and commenced to swing round and round as if steered Iby an unseen hand. Tho engines wore , stopped, bur ir was not until tho steamer ha<} ceased to m<«v that the "aca animal" dropped into the depths.
