Percy Ald ridge Grainger, although only ;ji years of age, is one of Austrai lia's most famous sons. He was born in Melbourne, his father. Mr John Grainger, who died recently, being a well-known architect and engineer He studied music with his mother till the ! a»e of 10 voars, and then went to Germanv. When 17 years of age lie went to London, and, since then, has £pvon I ninny hundreds of concerts in Great | Britain and America, on the Continent. I and in Australia and Now Zealand. Or late many of his compositions for piano, voice, c-liori'?, orchestra, and chamber mti.-ie hari> faet-n performed in England and America and on the Continent. His British folk sones, and native music (Polynesian. African, and Australian) are especially well known. Greig, during liis lifetime, regarded Mr Grainger best interpreter of the famous Norwegian composer's work. Mr Grainger is not married.
