GIFTS FOR CANTERBURY SOLDIERS. Tho ladies connected with the Lad; Liverpool Fund, who have done so much in the past two years and moro to pro?vide comforts for tho Canterbury mo a at the front, have issued an appeal for subscriptions to enable them to send parcels of Christmas gifts to our soldiers. This year approximately 7000 men will have to bo provided for, and if the fund is supported as well on. this occasion as in previous years, it is intended to send overy man from this province who is in Franco, Egypt, Palestine, Mesopotamia, or any other war-front, a parcel containing snch little comforts and luxuries as experience has shown are most appreciated. and a Christmas pudding. For the last two Christmases the soldiers' puddings have been ordered from Home, hut this year, on account of the shortage of food, and especially <jf sugar, in England, it has been thought advisable to purchase them here. Mess is Aulscbrook and Co. havo undertaken to make the puddings, and the New Zealand Refrigerating Company will put tliein in tho tins and pack them. The fact that the puddings are of local production will no doubt add to the pleasure of tho recipients.
The appeal for money for the parcels and puddings is made some six -weeks earlier this year than last year, as in a eablc lately rccoivod by tho Minister,of Defence, Brigadier-General Richardson stated that parcels from New Zealand took about five months to reach tlio troops.
