REDUCTION OF RACING.
CURTAILMENTS IN
CANTEKBITUY.
The District Committee specially appointed by the Racing Conference to consider the reduction of racing day 6 in the Canterbury district met yesterday. >Tho following clubs voluntarily surrendered their days of racing:— Amber ley Racing Club. Cheviot Racine Club. Christchurch Hunt. Braekenfield Hunt. The following curtailments ""were agreed to with regard to the undermentioned clubs: — IS umber of days. Ashburton County R.C.... 1 Canterbury Jockey Club ... 2 Geraldine Racing Club ••• 1 Hororata Racing Club ... 1 Marlborough Racing Club 1 Mcthven Racing Club ••• 1 South Canterbury J.C. ••• 1 The committee have made wise selections in cutting out the necessary eleven days from the clubs controlled by the Canterbury Jockey Club, as they have managed to arrange + lie meetings so that practically each centre has a fixture, although not quite so much racing as previously. As matters stand the North Canterbury and Oxford meeting, which is held at Rangiora, will be the only country meeting in Canterbury to he held noTth of Christchurch, while there will still be a day's outing at Little River on the other side of the city. The C.J.C. lose two days out of the usual ten, but it is not lcnowu yet which davs will drop out. The matter will probably be decided at the meeting of the Programme Committees There will not he any racing during next season at the AmbeTley, Cheviot, Hororata, and Methven courses. Geraldine will have a one day meeting next spring, and the Waimato Club wdl hold their usual one day fixture next March. Timaru, Marlborough, and Ashburton have each lost a oay, which, means that thev will have two meetings each during the year, one of two davs and another of one. There is_ no mention of the Waimate Hunt biennial fixture, so it ran he presumed that the .Hunt intend holding their outline. Altogether, the reduction of one-third does not appear to interfere with the sport as much as was #t first anticipated.
