BARQUE ASHORE.
AMERICAN "VESSEL STRANDED AT WELLINGTON HEADS.
(rnxu ASsorc.mov TjajEGn.vw.^ WELLINGTON, June 18. The barque John Ena, bound from San Francisco to Wellington, went ashore at the Heads to-night. She was endeavouring to beat up tho entrance to the harbour during a squall, and ran ashore.
She lies near Pencarrow Lighthouse —a little inside the position where tho ill-fated steamer Devon struck. She has a cargo of oil. Tho Union Steam Ship Company's tug Terawhiti, witii the harbourmaster, Captain Dawson, and others interested has gone to the sccne. What chances there may bo of getting the vessel off are not known at the time of telegraphing (midnight). Tlie John Ena is a steel four-masted barque of -812 tons gross, anil was buih in ISO'J by R. Duncan and Co., Ltd., Port Glasgow. She is under charter to the Vacuum Oil Company, Ltd. Mr Arthur G. Cate, manager for New Zealand of the Vacuum Oil Company, who is at present in Christchurch, received private advice of the mishap last night, and leaves for Wellington tonight.
