EFFICIENCY BOARD.

ASHLEY COUNTY MEETING

TRADE SCHEDULES BEING ISSUED.

The National Efficiency Board is distributing schedules among manufacturing and other trading concerns in order that the fullest particulars may be at the disposal of tho Commissioners in framing their recommendations. The schedules, which are required to bo returned by 30th inst., «sk for tho following particulars:— INDUSTRIAL SECTION. Please enumerate all the principal trade operations from the receiving ot tho raw material to tho marketing of the finished product:— 1. Most essential being the expert necessary for the conduct of the industry. 2. Essential—Operations that can bo performed only by experts or specialists —male. 3. Essential—Operations that can be performed (mly by experts or specialists —female. "1. Essential—Operations that ca n be performed only by substituted labour— cither male or female. r>. Partially Essential —Operations which, provided reasonable time was given for training, could bo performed bv substituted labour, but which must be malo labour. 6. Partially Essential—Operations which could be performed by female labour, provided reasonable time was given for training. Memo. —Substituted labour, meaning that such labour is not usually employed in the particular branch of the industry.

Occupations which, given reasonable time for training, oould be performed bv substituted labour—either male or female. 11. Occupations which, p-iven reasonable time for training, could bo entirely performed bv female labour. Memo.—Substituted labour—meaning that snch labour is not usually employed in the particular branch of tho trade

Tho employer is also asked to describe in usual terms the class of tho occupation or employment, and to ailv information likely to assist tho Commission.

Tho Ashley County meeting, under tho Efficiency Board, convened by the County Council, was held on Saturday last at the Coronation Hall, and was well attended by tho most representative ratepayers. Mr Hugh Ensor, chairman of the Council, presided, and introduced Mr Burbury to the meeting.

Mr Burbury clearly and fully explained the several clauses of tho Commissioner's scheme, known also as tho Gcraldine programme, and he mado it evident that, should the war be prolonged, tho work of the Advisory Committee and of the Board's jtrustoes. would be vory important in every district. After numerous questions had been replied to, it was resolved, unanimously, that the meeting endorse the Commissioner's 6cheme.

The chairman then received the nominations. Several nominees withdrew their names in order to secure equable representation throughout the County. It was finally decided to recommend to the Commissioner, for the Board of Trustees, Messrs William Mackintosh, Murtagh Kennedy, and James Wilson; and for ' the Advisory Committee, Colonel E. B. Millton, Messrs Hugh Ensor, Herbert Brown, Robert Mcintosh, John Joyce, I. Furby-Croft, and Arthur E. Cook. %
