The Germans ravaged his estate and burnt his home, which he had built out of his stage earnings. Jean de Rcszke, his brother, living in Paris, vainly attempted to assist him. Edouard de Reszke, the younger of the two famous brothers, was born in Warsaw in 1850, three years later than Jean, who became the most famous opera:ic tenor of his time. Edouard de Reszke was among the greatest of the opcratic baritones during the same period. Both sang in the principal opera houses, but Jean de Reszke was better known to London and New York audiences.
