HEAVY DAMAGES AGAINST CORESPONDENT.

At the Supremo Court, before Mr Justice Hosking and a jury of twelve, Georgo Sydney Kerr, of Trentham, Quarterir.aster-Avmourcr-iSergcant, petitioned for divorce from his wife, Harriet Mary Kerr. The peti tinner str.ted that they were married in February, 1900, at Blenheim. There was one ehild of the marringo. He alleged that on or about July and August, 191R, Mrs Korr frequently committed adultery with Raj'mond V'ietor Uythell. In addition to dissolution of the marriage, petitioner asked that co-respondent bo made to pay the sum of £500 damages. j The wrong-doing was admitted by tho defence, hut it was contended that it had been caused by tho cruelty and neglect of the husband. The point at' issaeMvas the question of damages. The jury returned a verdict for petitioner for £1000 damages—£soo more than ho had asked for. The jury also recommended that a substantial amount be set aside for the child. By consent of counsel, a motion for Judgment was adjourned to enable tho legal points of the verdict to ho argued in Chambers. °
