COKCERT AT CASHMERE. Mr F. C. Raphael's concert party on Monday evening entertained the inmates of the Cashniero Hills, Sanatorium, there being a lurcro attendance of patients who thoroughly enjoyed tho items. Tho party consisted of the Miisaas Hall and Dorothy Davis, Meassrs Alfred Bunz, E. Orchard, M. Gilmore, H. Hobbs, and F. C". Raphael, Mr Buns acting as accompanist. . BECKENHAM RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Beckenham Residents' Association was held on Monday, Mr S. McAllister (president) being in the chair. Matters of vital interest to the district wore discussed, viz.: —Public telephone to meet the requirement of the residents south of Sandwich road; the extension of the fixe alarm system; extra lighting throughout tho district. Now that tho tree-planting een~ 6ou it at hand, it was dccided to ask the Reserves Committee to augment the present supply of trees in the park. A letter waa ecnt to the City Council congratulating the Mayor and councillors on their return and to remind them of the fact that the Association was for the purpose of assisting them in their manifold duties. SYDENHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A &pccial meeting of the -Sydenham District School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday. Present—Messrs McKeon (chairman), Duncan, Slater, McCan, Taylor, Hore, Fricker, and Butter-field. Mr J. C. Strachan was appointed secretary. Messrs Butterficld, Fricker, and McCau wero appointed delegate, 3 to tho School Committees' Association. Measrs Butterficld and Barker wero appointed visiting committee for the month. Mr McKeon intimated that the contract for the supply of coal to tho school had expired, and that he had agreed, on behalf of the committee, to continue to take coal at 4C« 9d per ton. The chairman's action wasendorsed by the committee. It was agreed that future meetings be held on. the first Wednesday in each month. Mr Paul was heartily thanked for his services as secretary pro tem. EARLY CLOSING OF HOTELS. On Monday evening a well-attended meeting of those interested in the six o'clock closing of hotels was held at tho Rugby street Methodist Schoolroom. Apologirs for abscnce were received from Bishop Julius, Mr L. M. Isitt. M.P., and others. Various speakers referred to the proposal to place beforo each member of Parliament a petition embodying a request for tho curtailment of hours" under which liquor can bo eold. It was stated that the object of tho meeting was to make arrangements so that tho electorate of North Christchurch should provide its full quota of signatures to the petitions. In answer to a request for voluntary workers, thero was a good response, and. provision was made for additional helpers. An executive was appointed consisting of Meesre T. C. Field (chairman), Miss Bishop. Miss Roberts, Rev. P. Hagfritt, Rev. S. La wry, Messrs C. E. Salter, R. h. McKcnzie, K. Mathicson, and A. D. Hassall.
