(Received May 7th, 12.30 a:.m.) SYDNEY, May 6., The New South- Wales Government has made 121 new appointments to the Legislative Council, including Sir Jaincs McGowcn. 31 r R. D. Meagher, and Mr George Black, the recently defeated Parliamentary candidates. Mr McGowcn was formerly Premier of New South Wales. Mr Meagher is Lord Mayor of Sydney, and was formerly President of tno Legislative Council, and Mr Black was Chief 6ecro- { tary, in the Holman. Labour Government. THE QUEENSLAND REFERENDUM. (Received May 7tli, 12.25 a.m.) ' BRISBANE, May 6. The Upper Houso abolition referent ■ dum returns are incomplete. So far it has gone strongly against abolition.
