Again last night, after a fairly fine day, rain commcnccd to fall, bu£ at 2 o'clock this morning it ha<l cased to a light drizzle. The rain gauge recorded a fall of 3.40 in., tho heaviest for eome years. It was a warm rain, and will do an immense amount of good. Tho moisture has penetrated far into 'the ground, and all vegetation hM been thoroughly cleansed. In tho city, the majority of the street channels wer© taxed to their utmost capacity in carry in g away the 6torffl water. In some parts, the roads were more l l *® miniature lakes. In Durham street north, the channel becamo blocked through fallen loaves, and the road wM soon almost impassable. Tho cam® order of things occurred in Bealey Avenue, but the channels were BOOa cleared, and carried away tho without further interruption. thedral squaro, the channel in fronv of "The Press" Office oould not cop© with the extra water, and soon tuo area was flooded. Tho samo state o affairs existed in other parts of tn city, causing some slight inconvenience but no damage. .
