FOR THE MEN OF THE ROYAL NAVY.
TO TltE EDITOR OF ''THE PRESS." , Readers of your paper doubtless noticed in your- usauc of xri(lay, April 27 th, an appeal from Lord lierestord on behair ot the groat national work which is being carried on i>y the niuius uie »s u v'y i^usj^ue Committee ni lilugland" in the interests of our sailors in tne Royal ana also of the Royal IS aval prisoners of war in enemy countries. Ihe appeal is niade direct to the public of the Dominion, and J trust sincerely will not, be 1a vain. It is oniy deeds »uch as those of H.M.S. iirokc and H.M.S. bwilt that remind the public of what the Xavy is doing, but lor ail that we live and exist entirely by the protection of this magniliceao service. Such an appeal as tnat made by Lord Beresford would not be Tnade were there not dire necessity. L.o says: "'Unfortunately the strain u V<.n the committer's l-esourees has been sc» heavy, notwithstanding the response which was so generously forthcoi;u:<g to the appeal I made to the uubi:c over a year ago, the committee •5 now iu need of fuuds. I am, how-'-Ter, rocifident that it is only necessary to rufeke known the need to' ensure further help being given to our fund." Dou't disappoint hun. 1 cannot beg for such a cause—l can only ask you not to iforget your duly. Subscriptions may be forwarded to the secretary of the Xavy League, "Worcester street, and will be gratefully acknowledged.—Yours, etc., ALES BOYLE. President Canterbury Branch the •Navy League.
