Some interesting proposals in connexion with the working of conscription as affecting both the First and Second Divisions are to come before the annual conference of the New Zealand Farmers Union, Auckland Province, opening May 21st. There is a remit from the Clevedon branch proposing that the Second Division should be immediately classified and called up in rotation„Jnstead of by ballot, as at present. The Hainni broach suggests that before the Second Division is called for service the first ho increased by tho inclusion of men up to 50 years of age. It is proposed. jn a remit from VVaitomo, that tho Government be asked to conduct the whoie of the ballots for the First and Second Divisions at once, so that farmers would know the exact date wien they would have to go into camp some months ahead. Similarly the Kihikihi branch urges that the position of farmers of the Second Division bo defined. as to whether they will l>e required for service, or if They can rer main on their farms.
