Mr S. J. Mathieson, of the Church of Christ, has boon appointed a chaplain in the Expeditionary Forces, and is to join the 20th Reinforcements. Tho Acting-Primo Minister, Sir James Allen, arrived in Christehurch yesterday morning and went through to Dunedin by the express. He will return to-morrow evening, and will go straight through- to Wellington. Archdeacon Grace, of the Nelson Diocese, has received a cable messago announcing that his eldest, son, Captain Humphrey Grace, who is serving with the Indic.n Army in Mesopotamia, had been awarded the Military Cross. The Rev. Father Falconer, who has been stationed at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Dunedin, for some time, leaves shortly on a health trip to Australia. Having recovered from a sever© illness, ho proposes taking a prolonged holiday before ho resumes duty again. Major-General Sir A. W. Rcbin, General Officer Commanding the Forces, is at present slightly indisposed, and is remaining at his residence. He, however, is carrying on his work as G.O.C. as usual, and expects to be back at Headquarters within the next few days. Mr C. Blundoll, well- known as the captain of the Otago University football team, had the misfortune to break his anklo on Wednesday during the progress of a game on tho North Ground, ihinedin. It is not liKelv that Mr Blundell will be able to participate further in tho game this season. Advice has been received in Christehurch that Sergeant J. M*. Watkins, who left with the Main Body, N.Z.F.A., has been called to England to sit for his commission. On leaving France he was presented with a silvei*( flask, fountain pen, and leather pocket wallet. Sergeant Watkins ; s parents reside in Papanui road. News has been received that Captain Eric Mackenzie, M.C. (R.A.M.C.). son of Dr. Wallace Mackenzie, of Wellington, now convalescent from wounds received at the Somme, has been appointed Staff Captain at Adminstrntivo Headquarters of the R.A.M.C., Blackpool, England. When fliily recovered he hones to return to the front.
