BOROUGH COUNCILS.

KAIAPOI. The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. H. Biackwell), Crs. R. Dunn, T. K. Leithead, E. 11. Croft. H, C. Eevell, L. B. Evans, J. Bryden, H. Mcintosh, -S. Binaldi, and W. Doubleday. It was agreed that a letter of sympathy, ■with, hopo of better news, be sent to' the relatives" of Private M. J. Gallagher, reported missing. Permission was granted the Patriotic Carnival Committee to erect tents on Baven etreet east, and conduct novelty bicycle events on Baven street tvest on the day of •the Carnival.

A letter waa received from Messrs Johnston, Mills, and Joyce, Christchurch giving notice of Mr T. G. Blaokwell'e intention to take action for tho recovery of £1 ss, damage to stock done by the Fire Brigade. It w»a decided to obtain legal advice.

Draft agreements received from the Public Works Department with regard to the supply of electric current were approved.

Tko Lighting Committee's recommendations that the electric light poles should he placed flush with the footpath kerbing on the inside edge, and that the switchboard bo installed at the Fire Brigade Station, were adopted.
