LONDON WOOL SALES. (Received January 7th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 5. At the wool sales, there was strong competition at abnormal prices for now clip greasy combings of which the trade has !>ecn starved. Spinners, topmakers. and manufacturers completed eagerly. WHEAT. Chicago May options are quoted at 184' to 179;J cents, and Julv at lolH to 1461. SATURDAY S POULTRY MARKET. Messrs J. B. Morrett and Co. had a good entry, but many of the birds lacked finish, the market being overfloodecT with immature stock. Prices were easier in most lines, the market being more fully supplied. Table chickens realised 5s t>d to 10s 3d, ducklings Gs to 10s, ducks 5s to Bs, hens 3s to 5s 6d, geese 7s to 9s, turkeys lis to 32s per pair. THE EGG MARKET.> The c"g market is well supplied. Canterbury Egg Circle first grades are quoted at Is -Id, seconds Is 3d per dozen. TATTERS ALL'S HORSE SALE. Messrs H. Matson and 1 . Co. had an entry of 54 horses on Saturday. With the exception of 13 Shetland ponies which were sold on account of a North Island client, at from £10 to £14, tho quality was about the usual, and the demand showed no change on that ruling before the holidays. The fact of harvest operations being in full swing caused the attendance to be somewhat smaller than usual. Thg principal sales were: Account client, aged gelding £9, seven-year old mare £15, seven-year-cob £12; account H. Ashton, Marshlands, aged gelding £7; account C. Turner, Irwcll, six-year-old mare £12 10s; account client, eight-year-old mare £1(5 10s; account •G. Osborne, Woolston, aged gelding £14; account F. Shortland, Dunsandel, six-yqar-old mare £13. ~ CULVERDEN SALE. The second sale of the season was held at Culverden on Thursday last. Over 2000 head were yarded. Fat lambs showed prime quality, and Lidding wag brisk. The principal sales were: J. Buller, 40 at 28s 4d, and 80 at 25s 8d; P. Hamilton, 106 at 26s 9d; McAdam Bros., 14 at 2os 6d; L. T>alzell, 27 at 25s lid; F. Tracers, iOB at 25s 4d; W. Hare, 48 at 24s 9d, and 53 at 24s Id; T. G. Thomson, 100 art 245. Fat wethers made from 27s 6d to 335, and fat ewes 24s to 30s. About thirty trucks were forwarded to the freezing works.
