WOOLSTON FIRE BRIGADE.

NEW STATION -OPENED,

The ceremony of opening the new Woolston Fire Brigade Station took place on Saturday evening. There was a fair attendance of Woolston residents, and the proceedings, though short, were of a liappv nature.

The Mayor of Woolston, Mr J. J. Graham, jn the course of a. brief Kpoerh, said that the new building was a credit to the builder, the architect, and the borough generally, and it was pleasing to note that almost simultaneously with the opening of the new fire brigade station the Woolston borough had acquired an electrical street lighting scheme, which would compare very favourably with that of any placo in or about Christchurch. Mr Graham read a numlicr of apologies for* absence, including those from the Mayor (Mr" H. Holland). Inspector Hugo, Chief Inspector of Fire Brigades, Superintendent Warner, and various members of the Fire Board.

Colonel C. J. Cooper briefly endorsed Mr Graham's remarks, and tlion presented a ' silver key, given by the architect, Mr Jno. S. Guthrie, to the sister of the Mayor, Miss C. Graham, ■who. after congratulating the borongh on its latest acquisition, declared the now building open. Refreshments to those present brought a successful function, to a conclusion.

The ,ncw structure is an imposing brick bu'lding. altnost opposite tiio Rao ley bridge. It, of bourse, contains a most up-to-date engine-room with a well-appointed watchhouse attached. Several rooms arc set apart for the accommodation of tho married men and their wives, while similar rooms »ro provided for tho single members of the brigade. These rooms arc all furnished with every ujvto-date convenience. There is 'in addition a largo recreation room, which is connected with the engine room by' the usual sliding pole. The new building is a decided acquisition to Woolston.
