The Society also flew off its first longdistance race of the season, from East Cape, Twcnty-orre biros were sent, and were liberated by the chief officer of the .Arahura. two milei off land, in fine weather. !Xone o: tho birds reached home on "the day of tho teas, and only three birds homed on tile second day. The race was kept open for three day*, but no more arrivals were reported. The winner of first, prizo and the Society's silver c.up was E. Howe's Ghurka, ivhicii flew the distance of 523 milos 1263 yards air-line in , 21 hours 39 minutes 21 scconds. after deducting S hours for darkne<s<s. which is a very creditable performance.
