NAVY LEAGUE.
PRESENTATION OP PRIZES. Tlicre was a largo attendance at tho Choral Hall yesterday afternoon on tho occasion of tho distribution of tho prizes mid certificates won in connexion with tho Navy League and Victoria Jjoaguo essay competitions. Tlio president of the League (Mr A. Boyle) presided, and thea'o woro on tho platform with Jiim, Mrs Elworthy (president of tho Victoria League), Mrs A. Boyle, Mias Cholmondeley, Captain Marciel, Professor Blunt, Ale&sra H. S. K. Hobday, and H. J. Marriner. Captain Marciel gavo a ehort address on tho need of. educating the rising generation in the eirnplo duty of homouring their king and country. Tho principle of UritiaJi power waa bused on tho word "Buty," and the fact that bo Email an island had won bo great a part of tho earth's surface waa due to tho sea power of the British Empire. He then feelingly dwelt on tho death of Jack Cornwell, whoso name would last whilo tho fight oil the Jutland coast was talked about. John Corn well had been a Scout, and as a Scout had evidently bora© in his heart the traditions of th© great men of his country, and he urged tho children, present to remember that in doing their duty thoy were doing just what was wanted. A very pleasing entertainment was provided by Miss McDonal. whoso pupils danced a Highland Reel, ah Irish Jig, and a Sailor's Hornpipe. Mrs 15. A. Horne contributed two songs. Mrs Elworthy then presented the prizes to tho winners, a list of whom has already been published.
