CHEVIOT.
At tho annual meeting: of the- CheviotCounty Council the jo were present—Councillors T. G. Gee, G. L. Rutherford, T. Stevenson, C. Barnes, T. Meiklo, and J. S. Jackson. Cr. T. G. Gee was elected chairman, n.ud thanked members for tho honour they had conferred lipcn him. Tho monthly meeting was then held. Councillor ileikle reported on tho condition of tho Hurumti traffic bridge. An estimate oi the cost of repairs to tho bridge from A. Pearco and Son. was considered, and it was resolved that tho chairman and Cr. ilcikki should meet Mr Pearco at the bridgo and discuss tho matter. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Rutherford, seconded by Cr. Meikle, "That the Minister of Public Works bo asked to havo * purvey made of a direct rout© for a road frSin tho Huruivui bridge to Ethelton, thencc to Scargill, following tho railway line, before anything is done in bridging tho Greta and to ask the Wuipara County Council and tho member for tho district to support the proposal." The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote regarding a gravel reserve on Mra Geeson's property, ouggesting that ono acre or at the most two acres should be. sufficient for tho Council. It was resolved that, owing to tho difficulty cf getting a grade for a joad, it would to accessary to take 11 acreff, as tiia ground v. ; as broken by a creek. 'J'he socretary of the Belgium Fund wToto asking for a contribution in aid of etarving Belgian children. Tho Council granted a fum *•; i'lo_ to ho sent to the local Ladies' Committee. Tho ranger was authorised t;_ collect tho dog registration tax, and to retain 10 per cent, of tho amount collected. Mr McXicholl was offered tho position of first teamster at 10a per day, and th« dork was instructed to advertise for a second teamster at 9s per day. It, wa<; agreed that all employees bo grant' od a war bonus of sirpcnco per day until thre.j months after tho end of tho war. A deputation from .the Public Library waited on the Council and applied for a grant for .tho library fund. It waa resolved that £3 be gru.utc-d. The president of tho Board of Agriculture wrote asking tho Council for information regarding tho six worst noxious weeds. —Information supplied.
