The Aebley County Council met at Lobura on Thursday. "Preecnt—Messrs Hush. Ensor, Hiatt, Joyce, Philpott, and Wilson. Mr Eneor was re-elected chairman, members expressing their appreciation _ ci hia ability during his previous terms of office. Hr'Ensor said the members of the Council had pulled together well, and that the county was keeping up to tie maik. The Board of Agriculture wrote for information on the six chief noxious weeds of the district. The form supplied was filled in. but tho further etatment was made that the district was very free from 6uch troubles. Mr "Walter interviewed the Council with regard to the Forest road, and to the decayed state of a bridge on that road.—The Council decided that it could not at present undertake a new bridge, bu-t would ensure its safety, and would do urgent repairs as needed on the toad. With respect to the Glentui bridge nowbeing constructed by the Public Works Dep£rfrtmeni with a £ for £ subsidy from the Council, it was decided not to_ approve of. any alteration of specifications in the direction of permitting "black birch" to be. used. The Railways Engineer, . Christch-uxch. wrote with regard to by-law a for fixing speed limits for motor-care over bridges, but the regulation of this matter had not yet been taken uo by the Council. The clerk reported en the bridge -reserve. at the Grey, and it was decided to let n by tender, subject to riparian rights. The dark was given authority to deal with a few cases in which dogs were 6tin unregistered and also to arrange for next year'* sunpfy of collars. The 10 ner cent, addition to unpaid' rites was ordered to oe made on Thursday, February Ist, and to be duly advertised. The Countv Patriotic Committee, met at s pm , with a] small attendance. Some business was transacted, and it was left with ■the chairman- to ' call ,»n ' early meetwj to close tio committee's present work.
