AQUATICS.

THB LVTER-SCHOOLS' REGATTA,

Thf beats of the inler-echook' boat races will be rowed on Kerr's reach at 2 and 2.30 D.ni. on IDth inst., and the finals at i3O and 2.45 p.m. on Wednesday, iXrth inst.

The crews taking part in the competition represent Christ's College, Wangunui Collegiate, Waitaki, and Christchurch Boys' High Schools; and, on invitation, the president of the Canterbury Kcnring Association has appointed the following gentlemen (who have kindly consented) to officiate* during tie races:—Mesers A. E. Craddoek (starter), F. D. Kesteven (umpire). I\ I. Cowliehaw and H. H. Smith (judges', S. R. Whale (timekeeper). In connexion with the intcr-schoo'.s' rowing races a correspondent writes:—'"lost year, by pre-arrangement the races were rowed on Kerr'6 reach, Christchurch Boys' High School nominally having choice o£ course. This year, owing to changes in the staffs of the various schols, no arrangements were made in advance, but somo months ago Waitaki were given the option of choosing tho oour3e, and suggested Kerr's 3e ■ being the most convenient. Thia 6uits the two local schools, but the visiting crews unjustly regard the course as handicapping them, forgetful that the river there is sis to eight feet deep at high water, and that the drag on all the boats is the same. For this race some central and neutral stretch of water is desirable. Chri6tchurch is central, and Kerr's reach is practically neutral water for the local school* are not the first to take a spin there. This Teach, with its river road, is wide enough and straight enough to make it eminently suitable for Towing matches: and, by the removal of 6ome of the occultating -willow tress, it could be made to compare favourably with the worldfamous Henley Regatta Course."
