MILITARY SERVICE.
AGITATION FOR REPEAL OF ACT, A CONFERENCE SUMMONED. • ~\ On the 4th inst. a Press Association telegram from Auckland stated that the New Zealand Waterside Workers' conference had agreed to co-operate in convening a joint conference of trades unions, Socialists, the Social Democratic Party, peace societies, and anticonscriptionists "to discuss the best method to pursue for tho repeal of the Military Service Act.''
It is reported that the United Federation of Labour has decided to cooperate with the watersiders and the miners in convening tho conference referred to, which ig to be held in Wellington on tho 20th inst.
The object of the conference is stated to bo "for the purpose of discussing what steps, if any, are to be taken to try and secure the repeal of the Military Service Act." Primarily, tho conference is intended to be one of representatives of national, industrial and other organisations, but individual unions, if they so desire, may appoint and send delegates to it.
