COUNTY COUNCILS.

AKAROA

The statutory annual meeting of the Akaroa County Council was hold at noon on Wednesday, in the Council Chambers, Duvauchelle, whon there were' present:—Messrs J. D. Bruce (in the chair), C. Thacker, E. Hay, F. Williams, T. Conway, and J. B. Thacker. The business of the meeting" was to elect * chairman for the ensuing year. The election resulted in the appointment of Mr J. R'Xhacker, who returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him. , The retiring chairman, Mr J. D. Bruce, who lad filled the position for fourteen years with conspicuous ability, was accorded the warmest thanks of the Council for the exoellent cervices ho had rendered the district during that long term. Members joined in. eulogising Mr Bruce for the unfailing courtesy and dignity he had exhibited in the chair, and for the skill and pnetioal experience he had always been ready to place at the disposal of the Council, i Mr Bruce made suitable acknowledgment of the compliments bestowed upon him. The ordinary monthly meeting was then held, the same members being present. It was reported that the annual Goveraasent subsidy of over £700 had been paid into the bank. The Akaroa Borough Council wrote asking for permission to extend its electric lines to two houses outside its boundary.—Granted. The chairman stated that he had mot Mr J. Templin, consulting electrical engineer, and had traversed part of the county with him, the object being to decide upon the best scheme of reticulation in connexion with the proposed extension of Lake Coleridge power to the Peninsula. Mr Templin had also visited Le Bon's and Little Akaloa. and would submit his report to the next meeting of the Council. It wag agreed, to procure the year's supply of dog collars from Messrs Trigga and Denton. The Council's roadmen applied for leave to go grass-seeding during the Gcason. Leave fas granted, it being pointed out that there would probably be a serious shortage of labour this year. A further supply of tree coeds for planting in suitable places on the roadsides was received from Mr Orton Bradley, who was wanked for his gift. , Mr E ; Hay was deputed to purchase second, bod timber necessary lor repairs.
