CARNIVAL WEEK FIGURES. SLIGHT DECREASE SHOWN. Tic - chairman, of the Tramway Board (Mr C. M. Gray) at yesterday's meeting of tho Board referred members to the report of th© Works and. Traffic Committee for the figures relating to Carnival -week traffic. Ho depiqed, Hi® said, to express on behalf of tho staff their appreciation of the very valuable services rendered by the police in carrying out tTmir various duties —tho police had been of very great assistance to tho etaff. Mr S. A. Staples said lie thought the Board should express its appreciation of the services of tho etaff during Carnival week, and pointed out that there had -been no accidents, and not one car had been de-. railed. He moved on the lines of his remarks, and the motion was agreed to. The committee added: "Although every available car and every available man was at work, tho supply was insufficient to' adequately cope with, the traffic offering, parr i ticnlarfy <m Show Day. Tn submitting' the revenue account,/ the oaxrunitiee stated: The revenue account for ibe four weeks ended October shows an increase in receipts on all linee, with the exception of Hackthome joad. Notwithstanding this increase in the deficiency for ~£he four weeks is £80 greater than for the corresponding period last year, due to increase'in standing <jharg«B, and an increase in operating expemsea, which includes an. increase of £102 in wages paid to tramway ' men on active ssvice. This now amounts • to £168 per month, lie deficiency for the current year to October Ist is £2951. Ai the same date last year the deficiency was £764.
