Progress of the War.

In the Dobrudja the. Russian and Roumanian forces have recovered from that disastrous retreat which yielded the Constanza-Cernavoda railway to the enemy, and are now engaged in pushing in the enemy advance guards. This movement does not seem to have been vigorously opposed in its early stages. Probably the enemy is content to fall back on his defensive positions on the railway which it will be his aim to hold. Too much credence should not be attached to reports of tha evacuation of C-onstanza. The town itself is certainly of little value to tho enemy, cx,posed as it is to tho guns of the Russian fleet, but it may safely be assumed that the environs of the place and tho railway line will be firmly held. A pitched battle will certainly have to be fought ere the Russians regain the lost railway. Jn the meantime, on the Transylvania front, extremely heavy fighting is proceeding in which the Roumanians are making an increasingly good showing, probably duo to tho relief afforded by tho Russian extension of front. In the "West the French have completed the capture of tho village of Saillisel, after severe fighting. The British capture of tho R«giiia trench {reported yesterday) is described as being a minor operation of importance. The assault was marked by the most perfcet artillery work yet accomplished, the barrage having been placed ahead of tho infantry with brilliant accuracy. Battles in the air on an organised scale have now made their appearance, and a thrilling story is told in detail of the conflict reported in yesterday's communique by Sir Douglas Haig. Heavy fighting is reported from the Eastern front in which, tho Russians admit having sustained some losses. The Serbians are again making advances in the Cerna bend against the. Bulgarians.
