ARDA-NGORiI AT LYTTEX-TOX. An interesting arrival at Lytielton yesterday waa the steamer Ardangorm, from New York via the Panama Canal, she being the first 'of the steamers recently acquired by Mr Hughes for the Australian Commonwealth to visit this port. She has a gross tonnage of 3570 tons, and a net tonnage of 2289 ton 6, and is in many respects just the type ot vessel to give satisfaction for the purposes in. which it is intended to employ her. Sha was built so recently as last year for the \rdan Steam Ship Co., Ltd.. by IXapier and Miller, i.td., of Glasgow, her dimensions being: length, 364.8 ft., breadth 510 sft , depth 22.6 ft. Her engines were supplied by Mess re J. G. Kincaid -and Co., of Greenock. .. , Departure was taken from I«ew York on October Ist. and Panama Canal was cleared on the. 10th. Crossing the PaciEjo good weather was experienced until the last two weeks, when strong head winds rendered progress slow.
