CAREY, AN HEROIC DEATH. (By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received November 12th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 11. At the inquest on Lientenant C. F. Carey, a New Zealander, it was stated that ho was instructing a private soldier in bomb-throw-ing in England, when a bomb exploded in"a trench. Lieutenant Carey shielded his comrade, and received the shrapnel in his head, and died subsequently in _ho6pital. Lieutenant! C. F. Carey (died of wounds received in a bombing accident in England) was a 6on of Air A. F. Carey, the well-known Christchurch draper. Lieutenant Carey, who was 24 years of age, was educated at the Christchurch Boys' High School, and on leaving that institution joined tho Union Company's training 6hip for officers. Some three or four years ago, however, he gave up the sea to follow farming pursuits at Blenheim. He left New Zealand as a second-lieutenant with the 10th Reinforcements, and since his arrival in England had been acting as a bomb-throwing instructor on Salisbury Plains, where the accident which resulted in his death took place. Lieutenant Carey was married about twelve months ago to Miss Elsie Perkin, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Perkin, of Richmond terrace. /
