OUR SAILOR LADS.

LADY BE ATTY'S APPEAL

We have to acknowledge with thanks tho following subscriptions in response to Lady Beatt.v's appeal for the war work of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society:— £ s. d. .T. B. (Spreydon) ... ...0 5 0 The Misses Tripy ... ... 0 10 0 Gleaber ... ... ...0 2 0 James Gracc ... ... 0 1 G Mrs D'Oyley 3 0 0 T.F. ... ... ... 0 5 0 Graeme Aitken ... ...050 R. H. Malvon 5 0 0 A.C. "... 0 10 0 Mrs H. B. Williams... ...2 0 0 Mrs Hugh Acland ... ... 2 0 0 Mrs-A. K. Firth ... ... 3 3 0 Total to date £17 2 0 Lady Beatty's appeal is on behalf of the men of the ancillary fleet —the minesweepers, fishermen, and men of the mercantile marine, who have done such great service in helping the Navy to hunt down the German submarines. The story of their dogged endurance and heroism is graphically told in tho thrilling series of articles by Alfred Noyes which "The Press" 'is privileged to publish.

We reprint Lady Beatty's letter Hanover Lodge, Regent's Park, N.W. Sir, —I am asking for donations towards the war wo.'k oi' the British and Foreign Sailors' Society.

The Society is both international and interdenominational, and is tho oldest organisation looking after the all-round interests of our sailor lads. It has long enjoyed the pat'rqnage of the Royal House, and continues to receive the regular support of all the churchcs, a.s well as the leading members of tho naval, shipping, and commercial circles.

Even more important than all, 1 am convinced that the Society has a real place in the hearts and lives of our brave sailors, and as a small reward for their splendid courage and endurance I hope that you will generously assist this glorious enterprise. I am sure you will agree with me that it is not only necessary to maintain this work at its present high level, but also to extend its activities in many other centres where our

sailors are in urgent need of institutes ashore for the effective supply of their social and spiritual wants.— Yours very truly, (Signed) ETHEL BEATTY.

We should liko to be able to forward a- chequc to' Lady IJcatty by an early mail, and propose to send with it a list of the subscribers to the fund.
