THE EDUCATION SYSTEM.
ROMAN CATHOLIC CONGRESS CALLED. A meeting to make arrangements for the holding of a Roman Catholic Congress in Christchurch during Carnival Week -was held in tho Marist Bros.' School.' The parish committees of the Cathedral, St. Mary's, and Addington branches of tho New Zealand Catholic Federation, were present, and 'with the 3>iocesan Executive will undertake the management of the congress. His Lordship Bishop Brodie presided, and announced that the congress would be held in the Colosseum on the evening of November 9th, and would be representative of Canterbury and Westland. It would be the forerunner of a cam- : paign for the removal of the many in- ' justices under which Catholics laboured in this country, to place their views and ideals on education before the public, and to suggest remedies for tho improvement of their /Josition. Speeches would be made by "representative laity from the West Coast, South Canterbury, and Christchurch, and would be interspersed by chorus items contri- 1 buted by 300 school children. I Messrs J. McNamara, E. J. P. "Wall, 1 and J. O'Gorman were appointed to assist the Diocesan secretary in carrying out the various details. It was resolved that invitations be sent to every parish in the diocese to send representatives, and to all Catholic societies, including the members of the Hibernian Society, who are to be asked to appear in regalia.
