WORKING AGREEMENT

Mr Robert Triggs (Assistant Publiu Service Commissioner), having been appointed tho licensing authority under the Ordor-in-Council of October 18th, adopting tho Board of Trade's scheme for fixing tho price of butter for local consumption, and compensating local suppliers for the difference between the piico of exported butter and the prjco so fixed, invited to a conference with him the butter trade representative*! who were appointed tort week to discuss with. tho Government, or the Board of Trade, matters arising out of the operation of tho Bchenic. This conference met to-day. Mr Triggs presided, and the representatives of tho b\}tter tradp present were Messrs WFisher, Paeoy, Marks, Powdrell, Morton, and Agar. Tho secretary of tho Department of Agriculture (Mr F. S. Pope), Mr Ouddie (director of Dairy Division), Mr F. 11, Taylor (officer in charge of tho Imperial meat supply), and the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, of the Board of Trade, wero aiso present.

A general discussipn took place, and explanations wero afforded . wherever desired-

The chairman afterfards submitted for tho, consideration of tho conference a working arrangement for the carrying out of the Board of Trade's pcheme, also a statement as to' the returns which would bo required by tho licensing authority for tne purpose of giving effect -to the OrdeHn-Council. Tho clauses of the working arrangement wore considered seriatim, and certain were made and alterations effected by the conference as required. Tho working ai'rangement is supplementary tq the Order-in-Council, and wag prepared by Mr Triggs with the object of facilitating the operation of the scheme. The form of license to bo adopted was also discussed, tind some slight alterations were suggested, which will be referred to tho Solicitor-Gene-ral for his consideration. Eventually the working arrangement as amended was agreed tq. members'of the conference leaving tho matter in Mr Triggs's hands, and it willbei'ssned to tho various butter factories. Tho whole scheme will be in pperatjon in the course of a few days. Mr Triggs stated to-night in fes i * , °t to butter which mav be awaiting shipment and unon which license fees hftTO not been paid by factories owine to wjo time beiqc; insufficient tq cnatye tbis to be done, that a temporary will he given to export, providing ifcat exporters aro willing to give a guarantee making themselves liable for navment of the liccnse fees on ?nch butter.
