STABBING AFFRAY.

TWO WEST INDIANS INJURED

(press association* telegram.) WELLINGTON. October 15. A serious shooting and .stabbing affray took place aboard the steamer Kaikoura lying at the King\s wharf, lafce on Saturday.

About 10.15 p.m. it is alleged John Marshall and Reginald Prior, two seamen belonging to tho crew, caiue back to the 6hip apparently the worse for liquor. Thoy went forward to tho forecastle, where another seaman (Gershoum Simmonds) was lyiiic in his bunk, and Marshall and Prior, being rather rowdy when thev came in, Simmonds remonstrated with them. They resented this and a row commenced between the three men. It is alleged that during tho disturbance Marshall drew a revoivcr and fired two or "throe shots, none of which, however, took effect. Simmonds wrested tho revolver from. Marshall's hand and further scullling took placo between the three men, .in tho cours© of which it is stated Simmonds produced a razor and used it on tho two. Both of t-hs men were cut about a good deal. The men were parted and the police telephoned for. Sergeant O'Halloran and Constable C. Murphy quickly arrived on tho sccne. Dr. Henry was al9o called in, and did what- he could for Marehall and Prior, but their wounds were so serious that he considered it advisable to have theip. both removed to the hospital. Simmonds was arrested and will be brought tip at the Magistrate s Court to-morrow morning on. charges of causing actual bodily harm to the other two men. . n Upon enquiry at the hospital to-day it was learned that Prior, who was cut about the right jtrm and shoulder, was progressing favourably, but Marshall, wh(T hat! several had though not serious gashes about the head, and a big out down through the abdomen, was not doing; too well. All tho men concerned are negroes, natives of tho West Indies.
