SCHOOL COMMITTEE INCIDENTALS.
PROTESTS TO MINISTERS
Following on the action of tho Education Board, who under instructions from tho Department at Wellington has drawn up a decreased scale of incidental allowances to all committees in the old North Canterbury district, the following telegrams wero sent on Saturday by Mr A. Peveril, president of the School Committees' Association and member of the Board. - —
To the Hon. J. A. Hanan —"A protest against the decrease •in primary school incidentals was carried at a strong representative meeting of school committees on Thursday. We urge you to attend tho conference of local members of Parliament and committees at Christchurch on Thursday next at 8 p.m., and fully discuss the seriousness of the conditions accruing." To the Hon. G. W. Russell—' A strong representative meeting of Canterbury school committees urge your attendance on Thursday next at 8 p.m. to discuss an increase in incidentals with other local members of Parliament and committees." As illustrating the inadequacy of the proposed new stale it may be mentioned that one suburban school will receive approximately £53 for incidentals, and it cannot secure the services of a caretaker alono for less than £52, while out of the £53 it is expected to provide not only for a caretaker but for heating, sanitary requisites, school stationery.
